Fast away this old year passes.....and almost as fast the penguins
are growing. While the PC is off traveling and the driveway pictures
aren't quite as up-to-date as usual you can spend the extra viewing
time you'll have checking in on all the other links.
Have a great
New Years!!! (More from KY as connections allow, driveway will be
back live January 3rd)
Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 ~
I don't want to scare it away, so I'm only going to whisper this,
but in case you haven't noticed..... IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!!!
There is great joy on the driveway this morning. Happy Viewing!
Tuesday, December 26th, 2006 ~
A very Happy Boxing Day to everyone! It's still raining here in the
land that snow forgot ~ however we're doing our best to cope and to that
end here is a lovely new link for the
Empire State Building to visit, should the weather ever clear enough
so you can actually SEE the building. Try it out if you get a chance
when you aren't hanging out watching the penguin chicks!). Enjoy!!
Monday, December 25th, 2006 ~
Merry Christmas from everyone here at the driveway of driveway cam!!
Sunday, December 24th, 2006 ~
'Tis the day before Christmas........A very happy Christmas
Eve to all Driveway Cam viewers and all of our viewed, everywhere!!!
Saturday, December 23rd, 2006 ~
Hope everyone is having a good time with the last
minute running around. If you get a little crazy
just take some time out to stop, and watch the driveway....
Friday, December 22nd, 2006 ~
Today is Solstice Party day at the driveway ~ should be some
comings and goings of some sort. And of course there are the
penguins, pandas, polar bears and people skating in Cincinnati
to watch. (as well as snow removal out west) Busy day all
around!
Thursday, December 21st, 2006 ~
The days can't get much shorter(!) and still no snow....there
is however a huge snow storm in the Colorado area that we can
watch from the comfort of our warm weather zone ~ and if you
are feeling a little puzzled today it's no wonder as it was on
this day in 1913 that the
very first crossword puzzle appeared
in a newspaper. It was the invention of a journalist named
Arthur Wynne, who worked for the New York World. In 1924,
two men named Richard Simon and Lincoln Schuster decided to set
up a publishing house, and as they were casting about for ideas
of what to publish, they decided to try a book of crossword puzzles.
That book sold half a million copies in less than a year.
The book's success launched a worldwide crossword puzzle craze
and helped put Simon and Schuster on the publishing map. (thank
you to writer's almanac). So when you aren't surfing the
links, get out there and solve something!
Wednesday, December 20th, 2006 ~
Wednesday already?!?! How did that happen?!?!?! If you need to slow
down the rush a little take a few minutes to catch your breath and check
in on the penguin chicks, the sequoias, and of course the driveway....
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 ~
Today is the anniversay of the publishing of
A Christmas Carol
by Charles Dickens ~ a perfect thing to read when you aren't
checking in on the driveway! (should there ever be such a time)
Monday, December 18th, 2006 ~
If you are missing winter as we are....you can check in on
the mountains, or a little closer to home (well, for some)
you can watch the skaters in Fountain Square in Cincinnati
(links in the table below) and then there are the penguin
chicks. Happy Viewing!
Sunday, December 17th, 2006 ~
Happy Birthday Haydon!!!! Have a G R E A T day!!!!!
(Baking cookies continues here (the driveway will be joined
by Bogdan's car later today!) with occasional time outs to
check in on the penguins of course) Enjoy the views~
Saturday, December 16th, 2006 ~
So many views, so little time. While running around shopping, or
in between batches of cookies, or whenever you can ~ don't forget to
take some time out to stop and view the driveway. (and the penguin
chicks!)
Friday, December 15th, 2006 ~
The new baby panda in Atlanta is getting named this morning (at 10:00 I think) ~
personally I'm hoping they pick Ping Bao (which means, so they say, “peacefulness & precious treasure”)
but we'll have to wait to see. Speaking of seeing......there are more and more penguin chicks, and
penguin chick pictures in the gallery there, every day! So go get your coffee, put your feet up on
your desk and enjoy the pandas, penguins and the rest of the views. Happy Hanukkah!
Update: They picked Mei Lan for the Panda's name and as it's the 215th anniversary of the Bill of Rights today I'd like to
say (exercising my free speech) that while it's not my first (or 2nd or 3rd or 4th....) pick I'll do my best to adjust.
And I may just go out and peaceably assemble somewhere to round out this exercise session. (rights, not unlike pandas, like to be exercised regularly)
Thursday, December 14th, 2006 ~
From behind sunglasses and sun screen driveway cam wishes a
very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to ADAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is
to a WONDERFUL day to celebrate!
Wednesday, December 13th, 2006 ~
Will hook the camera up as soon as I can but until then
enjoy the rest of the views ~
Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 ~
The PC has a meeting for most of the day ... so while you
aren't watching driveway updates you'll have plenty of
time to check out the new penguin chicks!!! The hatchings
started last night ~ so enjoy penguin peeping and all the
other views as well.
Monday, December 11th, 2006 ~
A quiet day to start the week on the driveway ~ penguin chicks
should be making their appearance soon (first hatching was December
14th last year). If you see them before we do please let us know!
Enjoy the views ~
Sunday, December 10th, 2006 ~
A balmy Sunday here on the driveway. But up in the Artic
Circle things are hopping at Santa's House. You can watch
the happenings there live from 2AM to Noon (eastern) ~ well

Saturday, December 9th, 2006 ~
Happy Saturday! Enjoy the views ~
Friday, December 8th, 2006 ~
It probably won't be an issue but a quick reminder now
that there is some snow....the driveway gets plowed
whenever we get 3" of snow. So, there just might be
some first-of-the-season-radical-snow-plow action out
there today! There are also rumors of penguin chicks
(not confirmed) so grab a cup of coffee, put your feet
up and settle in for a full day of viewing ~
And check out today's very special birthday link too!!
Thursday, December 7th, 2006 ~
Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!!!!

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006 ~

of us as Tuesday rolls on down the driveway ~
Monday, December 4th, 2006 ~
A new week that is starting with a dusting of snow ~ hopefully it
will continue. (the week we're sure of it's the snow that is
in question!)
The Panda Cam in Atlanta has a new sponsor and is online only 10-5
M-F now so mark your viewing calendars. There is a new link on
the family pages that is the
collection of the last 25 days (so far) of the first pictures of the morning . And the wait for
the penguin chicks continues ~ in other words Enjoy the views!
Sunday, December 3rd, 2006 ~
Okay, so we're not going to get any snow....at least
we have some sunshine to watch. (The rumor of flurries
still exists but we are not hitching our wagon to that
particular post here at Driveway Cam) Have a great
day of viewing and other December type activities. (here
is
a link to a December fair in a town in Germany in case
your town isn't having one)
Saturday, December 2nd, 2006 ~
Happy Birthday Amy!! Hope it's a great day!!
The storm brought winds and rain but alas, no snow.
Maybe later today? Although from the look of the
sun...............? Enjoy the views! (there is snow
out there to see, just not on the driveway)
Friday, December 1st, 2006 ~
It's December!! We made it, and just in time for the
weather to change ~ Happy viewing today -
high winds are due and hopefully some snow from the storm
that has sweeping across the country (and various cams) all
week. And good Luck to the Red Devils who defend their state
championship today. Enjoy the views!

A very Happy Driveway Cam Type Birthday to Cheryl today!!!!!!!
And joining in her celebrations are Louisa May Alcott,
Madeline L'Engle and C. S. Lewis
all of whom share this birthday
with her. So in honor of all of them in between checking on
the baby Panda (who is about to walk), watching the snow fall in
the mountains, and keeping an eye on the Penguins protecting their
nests from the elements ~ get out there and read some children's
literature!
(p.s. - Cheryl, if there is an underlined word or words it means there is a link, so click
on the word or words underlined):)
Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 ~
No snow here to watch but the mountains and other out
west views have plenty. Enough to make you feel relief
or just wistful depending on your point of view ~ Enjoy!
Monday, November 27th, 2006 ~
The week begins in November and while we all struggle to
get back to work don't forget to schedule time to stop and
view the driveway!
Now, for non-weekend viewing fans a brief recap ~
Congratulations to the Russell Red Devils!!!!!! They are going
to the Ky State Championship again this year!!!! There is
a
youtube tribute to them by a fan ~ The Red Devil Way ~ here. And
congratulations to Kasey Clark who scored his 100th career touchdown
Friday night as they whomped the bats out of
Belfry 19-0!
Here is a link to an article about the game complete with a slide show of the

A
youtube tribute to them by a fan ~ The Red Devil Way And
congratulations to Kasey Clark who scored his 100th career touchdown
last night as they whomped the bats out of
Belfry 19-0!
Other news, driveway or not, seems to pale in comparison but here's
to you
Joe DiMaggio (it's the Yankee Clippers birthday today).
And out on the driveway it's a sunny day, there are penguins to watch, snow in the
mountains to monitor and elk!!! Who could ask for anything more? Happy Viewing ~
Friday, November 24th, 2006 ~
Still trying to recover from our share of the 10 million tons
of turkey (turns out I really don't know how to cook Thanksgiving
dinner for 3 people; so if you're in the neighborhood please stop by,
have a plate of food (or 8 plates of food)) ~ and don't forget that
leftovers are a great snack while roaming the views!
And a very happy Birthday to Cole who is now 54. He wasn't yesterday
although he tried to pretend he was but he most surely is today. Yee Ha! (a very
common expression among 54 yr olds)
Enjoy the views from whatever vantage point you are watching!
Thursday, November 23rd, 2006 ~
A very Happy Thanksgiving to one and all of our Driveway
Viewers. We'll be thinking about all of you today. Have to
go get the pies in the oven and finish up the cooking started
yesterday to get going down the path to the tryptophane haze!
(Americans as a whole will consume about 10 million tons of
turkey this week, along with about 75 million pounds of cranberry sauce.
(from Writers Digest))
Of course it's on TV but driveway cam viewers are a discerning
bunch and you may want to check in on the
Macy's Parade
here.....
Enjoy the day the and views!
Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006 ~
Busiest grocery shopping day of the year.....we hope
all of your Thanksgiving dinner shopping is done. Here
at Driveway Cam it hasn't begun so today is the day. And
you'll be able to see in 10 minute increments if we make
it back before sun set! Hope your Thanksgiving Eve is a good one.
Enjoy the views ~
Tuesday, November 21st, 2006 ~
Lots of trips out and back, up and down the driveway
today. So put on some music, put your feet up and
enjoy the views ~ Why music? Because
it was on this day in 1877 that Thomas Edison announced
that he had invented a new device for recording and
playing back sound, which he called the phonograph. The
first thing he recorded was himself reciting Mary Had A
Little Lamb.
Monday, November 20th, 2006 ~
To take the sting out of it being Monday ~ a little
snow flurry or two for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
Sunday, November 19th, 2006 ~
Sunday! Sunday! Get your Sunday here!
A busy day in Americana today. It was on this date in 1861 that
Mrs. Julia Ward Howe sat down and wrote
"The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
The poem was first published in the February 1862 issue of The Atlantic
Monthly, and later set to the popular melody "Glory Hallelujah."
2 years later it was on this day, in 1863, that President Abraham Lincoln
got up in front of about 15,000 people seated at a new national cemetery in
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and delivered the
Gettysburg Address.
It was a foggy, cold morning on this day in 1863. Lincoln arrived about 10 a.m.
Around noon the sun broke out as the crowds gathered on a hill overlooking the
battlefield. A military band played, a local preacher offered a long prayer,
and the headlining orator Edward Everett spoke for more than two hours. At
that time, a two-hour speech was quite normal. Everett described the Battle
of Gettysburg in great detail, and he brought the audience to tears more than once.
When Everett was finished, Lincoln got up, and pulled his speech from his coat pocket.
It consisted of 10 sentences, a total of 272 words. The audience was distracted by a
photographer setting up his camera, and by the time Lincoln had finished his speech
and sat down the audience didn't even realize he had spoken. But the speech was
reprinted in newspapers around the country, and it went on to become one of the
most important speeches in American history. (with thanks to Writer's Almanac)
Saturday, November 18th, 2006 ~
It's Saturday on the driveway ~ several trips in and out,
rain or snow showers in the forecast, links a plenty to visit.
Not sure there will even be time to fit in a nap...Enjoy the
views!
Friday, November 17th, 2006 ~
Well whoever forgot to update the text at least remembered to turn
on Driveway Cam this morning! So while you may not have known (from reading it
here) that it was on this day in 1558 that the Elizabethan era began
with the ascension of
Queen Elizabeth I (our favorite queen) to the English throne; you still
knew, all day long, what's been the buzz on the driveway. A round of
ale for Elizabeth and another because it really is FRIDAY!!!
Thursday, November 16th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam apparently fell over from boredom while the
PC was gone....but is back on duty and happy to be reporting
all the Driveway News it can find! Happy viewing ~
Wednesday, November 15th, 2006 ~
Last day in Newport....still no pictures of town. But
here is one from a session yesterday (in keeping with
the "action" requirements here on Driveway Cam!) Enjoy
the views ~
Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 ~
Didn't get any new pictures yesterday...so we'll leave
the cliff walk up for now. Seems to be snow on most
of the 'out west' cams. Here in Newport it's in the
high 50's, low 60's and flowers are blooming! The penguins
have settled into their egg sitting and the new camera
at the Pyramids looks great ~ enjoy view hopping!
Monday, November 13th, 2006 ~
Here is a view from along the Cliff Walk in Newport. Took
a stroll along it yesterday -
Sunday, November 12th, 2006 ~
The view of Newport RI from a first floor back room doesn't quite
capture the charm of the state or the town.....hopefully
more pictures later. Have a lovely Sunday enjoying the
(other) views :) ~
Saturday, November 11th, 2006 ~
Veteran's Day 2006
The PC is traveling today to Newport RI so no driveway pictures until
Thursday. However - there are eggs in the penguin nests, there is traffic to watch,
and a myriad of other views to catch up on while having to take a break from all the driveway
action. Please send in a full report of what we miss while we are gone ~ Happy Viewing!
Updates when possible over the next few days.
Friday, November 10th, 2006 ~
Driveway cam wishes everyone good viewing today - there
is snow at Old Faithful and there have been buffalo there
in the mornings! The penguins are having a tough time
with the weather in Antarctica, sunrises over the mountains
are spectacular as are the sunsets at the Pyramids.
And it's also another Special Birthday
today. So get some popcorn and enjoy wandering the links ~
Thursday, November 9th, 2006 ~ Good Grief! Forgot to save
Thursday ~ oye! Well...insert something here.
Wednesday, November 8th, 2006 ~
A rainy day seems to be rolling down the driveway,
but the rumor is that it's going to clear up. Driveway
cam will let you know as soon as that happens! (give or
take 10 minutes....) Enjoy the views ~
Tuesday, November 7th, 2006 ~
Election Day! Vote Early!! Vote Often!!!
(working at the polls today hence the dark first picture of the morning
apparently it's dark this time of day ~ who knew?!?)
Monday, November 6th, 2006 ~
Happy Election Eve! Hang on, the commercials are all most over ~
something to think about prior to casting your votes this mid term
election....It was on this day in 1860 that Abraham Lincoln was elected
for his first term as president of the United States. Before that,
Lincoln's only experience in national politics had been a single term
as a congressional representative and two unsuccessful runs for senator.
Sunday, November 5th, 2006 ~
The weekend continues this Sunday morning as do the
adventures on the driveway. Several trips out and back
today for your viewing pleasure. There is also a new
link down in the table for a cute little puppy who knows
quite a few commands...you just have to work out what they
are. (and before you panic because the "more montana" link
is gone ~ you'll find it now on the traffic cams page)
Enjoy!!
Saturday, November 4th, 2006 ~
Now appearing on Driveway Cam ~ another beautiful
autumn morning in the 'hood. Please to be having, in conjunction
with all your viewing, a great Saturday.
Friday, November 3rd, 2006 ~
That's right ~ it's snow on the ground!!!! Not a lot
but the promise of things to come, hopefully :)
Have a great Friday and enjoy the views ~
Thursday, November 2nd, 2006 ~
Looks like a beautiful day in the neighborhood - the
driveway cam neighborhood, Antarctica, Old Faithful, Vermont,
Fountain Square, the Donkey sanctuary, and hopefully wherever
you are viewing from as well! Enjoy ~
Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 ~
It's All Saint's Day here on the driveway and everywhere
else for that matter. On view today for the first time back
in 1512 was Michelangelo's paintings on the ceiling of the
Sistine Chapel! Don't have a live link unfortunately but
there are some beautiful
pictures here if you are looking for additional views to contemplate
as you come down off your Halloween sugar rush! (and elsewhere on the
web if you need more; google Sistine Chapel and you can spend the rest
of the day wandering through the 1,230,000 sites!)Enjoy ~
Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 ~
HAPPY HALLOWEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monday, October 30th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam hopes all it's viewers have now figured out
that the time changed yesterday and have adjusted their
clocks accordingly. (The clock has been reset on Driveway
Cam so it shouldn't be taking anymore pictures of the
dark for a while). In honor of Halloween Eve here is a
link to some
fabulous (!?!) pumpkin facts from the pumpkin site
we kept mentioning last year. If you didn't ever go check
out the pumpkins there you'll want to take a moment to go
look at the pictures (click here)
- they really are quite amazing!
Enjoy all the views ~
Sunday, October 29th, 2006 ~
Last night was scary movie night here at Driveway Cam,
complete with scary movie treats, Em's famous mummies and
some tasty eyeballs to go with them (click for full size):
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
~~~~~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Today the wind is still screaming around outside. There will
be lots'o leaves zooming across the driveway all day ~
Get some cider and doughnuts and settle in for some
late October viewing on all the cams!
Saturday, October 28th, 2006 ~
Someone was in my office last night and bumped Driveway
Cam askew. It's been righted for now (until the next
mysterious visitor comes in to mess with the windows
again....) Rain and 50 mph winds are due in today - hang on
to your hats because anything could and might blow across the
driveway! Hope you all have a lovely (and creepy!) weekend before
Halloween ~ Enjoy viewing the links and try out
this one for some
really big pumpkin information!
Friday, October 27th, 2006 ~
Finally got the pictures from the Clore weekend posted. You can also
find them on the Family Pages table.
(there weren't too many of them but they are out there)
(including the pumpkin creations). In honor of the weekend
before Halloween here is a very scary
picture to get the Halloween Spirit going ~ the stuff
of nightmares!
And a little news note
for those of you (and for us here at driveway cam too) who
have not yet gotten Jack-o-lanterns! Get out there and find one,
quickly ~
Thursday, October 26th, 2006 ~
A couple new pages here on Driveway Cam to try out...
one for Leaf Peeping
and one for Watching Traffic .
Also take a moment today to try out this link and to hum
"15 miles on the Erie
Canal" in honor of the anniversary of the opening of
the Canal ~ in 1825, which was built to connect the Atlantic
Ocean with the Great Lakes. The canal was 360 miles long,
40 feet wide, and 4 feet deep—just deep enough to float
barges carrying 30 tons of freight. It was built by European
immigrants—mostly Irish—who were paid $10 a month. They were
also given whiskey, which was stored in barrels along the
construction site.
When the canal was finished, cannons were lined up along the
towpath just barely in earshot of each other. They fired one
after another from Lake Erie to New York City, finishing the
relay in 81 minutes, establishing the fastest ever rate of
communication in the United States at that time.
....We've got a a mule and her name is Sal........(just
wanted to make sure that was in your head before leaving!)
Wednesday, October 25th, 2006 ~
Still working on getting the weekend pictures posted.
It's a lovely Wednesday out on the driveway ~ and elsewhere
on the cams. So let's get out there and enjoy the views!
(And in case you hadn't noticed....the Penguin Cams
are back and operational again! Yeee Ha!!!)
Tuesday, October 24th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is so sad to announce that today the Clores
leave to go back home.....it's been a very fun weekend and
we hate for them to go.
Pictures will be posted this evening. Snow is due in, in
some limited form, this evening as well.Enjoy the views!
Monday, October 23rd, 2006 ~
Today is Hannah's official tour of U of R. The rest
of us are going to figure out what to do while that
is going on....haven't had much time to upload pictures,
or even turn on Driveway Cam yesterday (oops!).
Meanwhile ~ enjoy the views and the fleeting glimpses
of sunshine should there be any, and of snowflakes which
rumor has it are due!
Saturday, October 21st, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is so happy to let you know that even
as this is typed Amy, Hannah, Lydia (we hope), Haydon
and Bman are sitting on the runway in Philadelphia
having just landed on their way up here for the
weekend!!! They get here around 11:00 ~ Oh Boy! Oh Boy! Oh Boy!
You'll see all the comings and goings, we'll post pictures
when we can meanwhile just sit back and enjoy the show.
Today's Driveway Cam is brought to you by Thomas Alva Edison
who on this day in 1879 finally struck upon the key to inventing
a workable electric light in his laboratory in Menlo Park, New
Jersey. He started off using platinum wire, just as everyone
had before him, but after more than a year of frustration, he
decided to try carbonized cotton thread. At 1:30 in the morning
on this day in 1879, he hooked a carbon filament up to an
electric circuit and it glowed from 1:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
the following afternoon.
If it weren't for him we'd all be watching Driveway Cam in
the dark..................
Friday, October 20th, 2006 ~
Rain all morning, and more this afternoon. Hopefully it
will dry out at some point and will be the start of a good
leaf-peeping weekend for
everyone. The leaf-peeping on the cams has been enjoyable so
even if you don't get to go out to kick a few leaves around
you can watch the colors from the comfort (and relative dryness)
of Driveway Cam. Enjoy! ~
Surprise visitors are due in tomorrow.........we're
VERY excited. More on tomorrows update.
Thursday, October 19th, 2006 ~
Imagine that ~ another cloudy day here on the Driveway.
The good news is, as keen eyed viewers have no doubt
already noticed, the Saturn is back! It now has brakes
and a sparkly new inspection sticker, and it had a bath.
The excitement may be too much for one driveway cam.....
Wednesday, October 18th, 2006 ~
Some minor technical glitches in getting Driveway
Cam up and running today (that mostly involve alarm
clocks but the details are boring....)
The Saturn Wagon will hopefully make it back from
the repair shop soon to once again grace the driveway
view. In the meantime enjoy the splendor of the
driveway as well as the rest of the cams
out there and have a great day.
Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 ~
Rain seems to be on the menu for today at the Driveway Cam Cafe,
so pull up a seat, and enjoy a large helping of the views as they
are served up here and around the 'net! (Don't forget to bring
your own coffee!)
Enjoy~
Monday, October 16th, 2006 ~
A very happy week to one and all ~ and hopefully a little
less snow for the penguins ~
Enjoy!
Saturday, October 14th, 2006 ~
It's a perfect day for staying inside, having some cider
and doughnuts and watching the driveway and the world
on driveway cam. The penguins are having quite the time
with the snow ~ 3 of the cameras are stuck, the link below
has been set to go to the page with the working camera on
it. (Station Camera 2) And it's also another VERY Special Birthday
today. (One that maggie and milly and molly and may all hope you'll check out)
Enjoy!
Friday, October 13th, 2006 ~
A very happy Friday the 13th to one and all but especially
to all you paraskevadekatriaphobes out there!!!!! (fear of
not just the number 13 but specifically Friday the 13th).
As currently visible on Driveway Cam we did not participate in the snowiest
October day in record keeping history as they did in Buffalo.
They got 14-24 inches, we got goose-egg. Sad, but it does make us
hopeful that there is snow out there to be had.
The PC (as you may have noticed) is back from Dallas. And brought
one last picture from the trip back with it. It's a picture of
the home of Driveway Cam from the air before landing yesterday.
Somewhere under those trees (below the arrow) is the driveway,
waiting patiently at that point to get back online. And now
it is. Enjoy!!
Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 ~
Day 2 of the conference gets underway in an hour or
so. Today's current picture is of our booth in it's
finally put together stage(you can also see it on the
last 15 pictures page). Our 'address' there is
1508/1510 so if you happen to be in town and wandering
around the convention center stop by! Penguins were
back briefly yesterday (according to the pictures posted
there) Very exciting!! Hope you all are enjoying
catching up on your other favorite views ~ here is one
Dallas Cam I found
this morning in case you are wondering
about what things look like here....
Monday, October 9th, 2006 ~
Howdy from Dallas (see yesterdays note down in previously
if that opening makes no sense to you) ~ up a little early
this morning (it's about 5:30 AM local time) thought I'd
upload a current picture....this is the view out of one
of my windows at the moment. Thought it was a lovely
(also slightly blurry) comparison shot to the now "first
picture of the day" view. Also added a new page to check
out, a little news (?) page. Just click
the link to try it out. Driveway Cam hopes,
even as it pouts because it didn't get to come on the
trip, that you have a great day and enjoy
your other favorite views. Yeee Ha! (as they say
here) :)
Sunday, October 8th, 2006 ~
The PC has to go to Dallas until Thursday so no new
driveway pictures until then. But please be sure to
check in on the penguins, the mountains and the pyramids
for us and send in any late (or early) breaking news!
Congratulations to the Tigers! If someone had to beat
the Yankees we're glad it was them.
The 'current' picture of the day is a blurry shot
of the full moon + 1 day rising over the neighborhood.
Figured it might be a somewhat nicer shot than the dark
driveway for the next few days........
Saturday, October 7th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is happy to present a picture perfect
autumn day on the driveway ~ Enjoy!
Friday, October 6th, 2006 ~
The Harvest Moon
is due up tonight. This particular Harvest Moon
is unusually big--almost 12% wider than some full Moons we've seen
earlier this year. Why? Because the Moon is near perigee, the side
of the Moon's lopsided orbit that comes closest to Earth. (Compliments
of spaceweather.com) However, until it does rise, Driveway Cam will
keep you illuminated on all the driveway news you can possibly need.
And on another note...
On this day in 1866, the Reno brothers, John and Simeon Reno,
pulled off the first train robbery in American history. They
took $13,000 from an Ohio and Mississippi railroad train in
Jackson County, Indiana.
Thursday, October 5th, 2006 ~
If Driveway Cam gets your heart to racing too much and
you need a quiet moment ~ visit some of the mountain
views in the morning. Especially Yosemite - the mornings
have been lovely out there lately! (check out Random Shots
link and click on scenery for some recent views). Happy Thursday ~
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 ~
We need an audio portion to Driveway Cam this morning while the
thunder rolls through here. Many of our viewers will have
their own surround-sound effects as a cold front moves through
the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. Should be exciting - take a
hard hat with out if you go out in those areas as according to
weather reports: This same cold front produced severe weather late
Tuesday and early this morning across South Dakota,
Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan. Pea to
quarter-size hail was reported throughout this
region. In Onamia, Minn., hail covered the ground
three inches deep. Sounds like a very good day to
stay in and enjoy some camera hopping (provided you have a good
surge protector connected to your Driveway Cam viewing apparartus!)
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam will be watching, and reporting on the Driveway
today but secretly wishes it were reporting on the Detroit/NY
game, from Yankee Stadium! [all of us at Driveway Cam would love
to see the game in person....as we also love the Tigers here!]
In other musings, since we reported here the date of the building
of the Berlin Wall it's only right to note that today is the anniversary
of the 1990
reunification of East and West Germany. And here is a look at
Berlin today, right now:
First Monday in October and it's busy busy busy.....for
the Supreme Court who
get underway today (first arguments are tomorrow), for Mary Q as she
enjoys their last day of the trip in Ireland (due to head home tomorrow),
and of course for Driveway Cam as it works to keep you up-to-date on
all daylight driveway happenings! One other note ~ some great pictures
of recent Northern Lights here
and if you live up north the next couple of days could be more good viewing. (hmmmm,
aurora cam.....have to work on that). Last but not least, another Special Birthday
Link today ~ Have a great start to the viewing week!
Sunday, October 1st, 2006 ~
Now showing on Driveway Cam ~ October in all it's glory and
with all it's bumps in the night! In Irish, October is
called Deireadh Fómhair, meaning "end of harvest-time".
(We hope Mary Quinn is enjoying Deireadh Fómhair while
over there). And today is Em's walk ~ we wish her and
her feet and the feet of all the walkers a comfortable
day! A little October quotation to get the month and
today's viewing going.....Enjoy....
Listen! the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings,
now for October eves!
Saturday, September 30th, 2006 ~
Feels like in just a blink of Driveway Cam's eye September
has come to an end. Amazing. A little note from Writers
Almanac: it was on this day in 1452 that the first section
of the Gutenberg Bible
was published in Mainz, Germany; the first
book ever printed with movable type! (link has more information)
It is supposed to be a nice day here
and hopefully where you are too. Several trips down and
back up the driveway are on tap for today, the penguins
could show up again and people are waving at us out at
Old Faithful this morning ~ enjoy cam hopping and all
the views!
Friday, September 29th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is tickled black and white to announce the
return of the penguins! They got back yesterday and
made a brief appearance despite the weather down there
in the Antarctic. You can watch the snow and their
return(s) at the free range penguin link
in the table below. A note posted yesterday on that site
says:
This is only a very small group, usually experienced,
older individuals which already had a nest site during
the last years. They are like little "spies", checking
their old nest sites and starting to behave territorial
for their future nest locations.
What happens next?
According to our observations during the past 2 years
it will take a quite long time until they start building
their nests. OK, now there is a lot of snow too, so no
chance to build up anything! In the first weeks (at least
till end of october) the most penguins can be observed in
late afternoon (starting at about 17 or 18 UTC camera time)
until night. In this early phase of the brood season they
are usually not easy to observe. Also very typical at this
early phase: very strong storms combined with low temperatures
will usually cause again the complete (!) disappearance of
the penguins. And they'll start to return again when the
weather conditions are good again.
Have a great day of viewing!
Thursday, September 28th, 2006 ~
With all the goings and comings in the driveway today
in addition to the buckets (it's a meteorological term)
of rain heading our way, you may want to get a supply of
drinks and snacks ready for the long day of viewing
ahead!
Wednesday, September 27th, 2006 ~
In the blink of an eye it's Wednesday - here for you on
Driveway Cam in 15 minutes increments. The North Pole camera
was having problems so it's been replaced with a link for
another Panda Cam ~ this one is at the Atlanta Zoo where
on September 6th they had an arrival of brand new baby
girl panda cub!! Enjoy the views! (please notice the wait for
penguins wasn't mentioned..... but quite the snow storm
they had there yesterday)
Tuesday, September 26th, 2006 ~
Still waiting on the penguins here at Driveway Cam. If you
spot them before we do please let us know. Another
Special Birthday Link
day is upon us. Oh do not ask whose is it, simply click to go and visit
(with apologies). Have a good day of viewing ~
Monday, September 25th, 2006 ~
It's noses back to the grindstone for the start of the
last work week in September. But be sure to give your
noses a break with some driveway viewing, penguin arrival
watching and whatever camera view hopping you enjoy most.
(Sunsets around the pyramids are very nice this time of year,
try around 11:30AM (eastern))
A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Uncle Al today!!! - and to everyone
else.......enjoy the views.
Sunday, September 24th, 2006 ~
The sun is supposed to be in and out all day today
combined with car trips up and down the driveway means
it should be an exciting day of viewing. And of course
there is still the arrival of the penguins in the wings
(so to speak ~ not meant as a taunt to the penguins who
are of course walking not flying into view). However,
speaking of flying...our best wishes for a wonderful trip
to Mary Quinn who should have arrived in Dublin Ireland this
morning! She's off for a 10 day visit and
here's a
look at where she is staying for the next couple of days.
Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday, especially Greta who is
having her birthday today (!!) and that none of our
viewers got flooded out in the rains over the weekend.
Saturday, September 23rd, 2006 ~
A very merry Autumnal Equinox to everyone! Hope it's
a good one where ever you are. You'll see all the festivities
here today in 15 minute increments. Take it easy on the
Equinog while partying but raise at least one toast to
the penguins! (who we are really hoping will wander back into
view today.)
Friday, September 22nd, 2006 ~
It's the last official full day of Summer. Driveway cam
seems to be having some issues with that. In the meantime,
throw a frisbee, pick a dandelion, drink a glass of lemonade,
sit on the porch, pull up a lawn chair and enjoy the
views (as odd as they may be from the driveway) :)
Thursday, September 21st, 2006 ~
Looks like the start of a pretty day out there ~ the
mystery is, as always, how long it will stay like that. According
to
Writer's Almanac today is the the birthday of Fannie
Flagg, Stephen King, HG Wells and JR Tolkien as well
as Sir Allen Lane who came up with the idea of publishing
high-quality literature in paperback form, and that was
the beginning of Penguin Books. And speaking of Penguins...
somewhere out on the ice (?) they are working their
way back ~ any day now!!!! So when you aren't watching for
them today you can pick one up to read ~
Wednesday, September 20th, 2006 ~
Welcome to Wednesday on the Driveway. This last week
of summer is racing by (and taking 3 minutes of daylight
with it every day). Enjoy the beauty and the splendor
of the driveway and all your other favorite cams today.
New contest on Driveway Cam! Today is the birthday of
the current poet laureate of the United States. Do
you know who that is? (Driveway Cam and it's associates
did not). If you know before you look at the link, send
us your guess. First correct entry wins!
Tuesday, September 19th, 2006 ~
A somewhat cloudy day as summer gathers speed freefalling
towards the equinox on it's way down the driveway and out of here......
Enjoy the views and let us know if you find the penguins are back!
Monday, September 18th, 2006 ~
Summer is supposed to be winding down but we seem to be
having at least one more day of it. Perfect viewing
weather!
Sunday, September 17th, 2006 ~
Looks like there may be some sun which will mean a lot less mud down at
the Fiber Arts Festival
today. (Always prepared ~ by mid afternoon yesterday they had a tractor to help
pull cars out of the parking area!) And if you can't make it down
to the fairgrounds don't worry - Driveway Cam will be keeping you on
the edge of your seat with it's (almost) LIVE LOOK at today's driveway
action.
Saturday, September 16th, 2006 ~
Hopefully everyone survived the ides of September yesterday and
everyone is ready for the Fiber Arts Festival
down at Hemlock Fairgrounds!
It should be a rollicking good time. And we hope to see you there.
A little history for today from Writers Almanac ~
It was on this day in 1620 that the Mayflower sailed from Plymouth, England, bound for the New World.
A couple hundred years after that Charlie's mother lived just up the street from where they departed!
She lived there with her family until she came to the United States, eventually met Robert Miller
and, well, the vast majority of Driveway Cam viewers either are one of her descendents or know one or more of
her descendents! In honor of the Pilgrims (and no small tip of the hat to Ms. Beatrice Emily Cole either)
here is a live look at Plymouth Sound today!
Have a great Saturday and enjoy the views!
Friday, September 15th, 2006 ~
Happy Friday to viewers everywhere! (even where it's not
Friday). It's almost the weekend. Driveway Cam is beside
itself (not really you understand ~ it would make Driveway
Cam very uncomfortable to find it was actually beside
itself)(it might make us all a little uncomfortable in the
implications) knowing the weekend is so close....because...
it's Fiber Festival weekend down at Hemlock Lake. But before you
grab your cereal bowl and head over check out the link for directions and schedule etc.
And a very special Happy Birthday today for Agatha
Christie! You'll find her on the
Special Birthday Link for today by clicking this link or her name.
Thursday, September 14th, 2006 ~
And another rainy day comes online here at Driveway Cam.
The few-updates Thursday meeting has been postponed until
noon so it's updates till then!
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 ~
A rainy day here on the driveway....makes it much more
fun to keep checking in on the penguins to see if they
are back yet (they aren't) ~ it won't be long! And if
you see them before we here at Driveway Cam start yippy-ki-yoing
about them please let us all know!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 ~
It's Primary day here in NY (as well as 5 other states).....vote early, vote often
isn't the motto for just the general election ~ if you aren't busy voting all day
have a good time enjoying the views.
Monday, September 11th, 2006 ~
Sunday, September 10th, 2006 ~
A quiet day for the driveway ~ so get a cup of coffee
(or tea) put your feet up, settle back in your chair,
relax and enjoy the views. (You could even watch the
sunrise across the country.........)
Tennessee,Montana,Montana,Montana,Wyoming,California this morning as
Driveway Cam got started:
Saturday, September 9th, 2006 ~
Good Morning Driveway Cam!!!!
A busy day on the driveway as we have a cold front going
to be coming through today. When you see it get here,
send us a screen capture of the picture and the first
entry in will win a prize! :) The rest of
the day will be so many trips in and out of the driveway
either your head or your computer screen will spin! (okay,
so maybe only 2 or 3 trips but Hey! for some of us
that will be enough to require some napping to recover.)
Have a great day and enjoy the view ~
Friday, September 8th, 2006 ~
It's amazing how fast the trees and leaves figure out it's
September! And how fast the rest of us figure out it's Friday!!
Have a great day of viewing ~
Thursday, September 7th, 2006 ~
Oooopps - hit the snooze button a couple few times
too many.....a couple quick driveway pictures and
then the PC has to hit the road for the last day
of the few updates meetings. Enjoy!
Wednesday, September 6th, 2006 ~
Good Morning from Driveway Cam. Quiet morning, but
you'll see whatever action there is live! Well as
live as you can in 10 minute increments. Hope everyone
has a good Wednesday ~ Happy Birthday to Justin! ~ and
happy viewing to everyone else.
Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 ~
Driveway cam's PC has to attend 3 1/2 days of meetings
starting later this morning....so the next few days
will be early morning and then early evening driveway
updates only. (sorry to say, on any number of levels!)
Enjoy this first full week of September and enjoy all
your favorite links out there! (we have it on good authority
that the PC will probably be checking them out as well during
the meetings!)(3 1/2 days with out badger cam?!? Why, it's
almost unthinkable....)
Monday, September 4th, 2006 ~
A very good Labor Day to one and all - enjoy the day off,
enjoy your last day before school starts (true here in the
North, not so true maybe where you live), enjoy the last
holiday of the summer and for goodness
sake enjoy putting your feet up, resting a bit and watching
the day roll down the driveway!
Sunday, September 3rd, 2006 ~
The rain and wind for the most part has moved on (you
can check out the various cams that are in the north
east to watch Ernesto make his exit....) and it looks
like a slightly damp, quiet Sunday here on the driveway.
Saturday, September 2nd, 2006 ~
Ernesto hasn't gotten here yet but appears to be
on his way:
Not much else happening locally, or currently. However, on 9/2/1666
a small fire started in a bakery on Pudding Lane (!) in London
which soon engulfed the city. [The Great Fire of London
destroyed over 80% of the city (thanks to Writers Digest for the info and link)]
Meanwhile back here in 2006 Driveway Cam will help you keep an eye on this lazy and eventually
rainy (they tell us) weekend as summer tiptoes off for another year.
Friday, September 1st, 2006 ~
And we're back in the 'ber' months! (hopefully the
brrrrrr ber months will wait a while before they show
up). Have a great Friday out there - we're
expecting Ernesto sometime this weekend here, but today
just some intermittent sun for your driveway viewing
pleasure ~
Thursday, August 31st, 2006 ~
To celebrate the last day of August it's updates
every 10 minutes! (also celebrating the last
minute cancellation of today's edition of
Thursday At The Condo). Hope you all enjoy the bejeezees
(it's a technical term) out of today and happy viewing ~
Wednesday August 30th, 2006 ~
This week seems to be racing by, as if August can't wait
to get out of here! Well, it's not done yet ~ and here
for your viewing pleasure is today, on the driveway.
Tuesday August 29th, 2006 ~
A rainy Tuesday is underway here on the Driveway. Heard
tell that the Montana Elk Cam link seems to be working intermittently
(not unlike the rain here). Try it a few times, it does eventually
pop in. (don't know if the large machine in the picture has
anything to do with it or not!) Happy Viewing ~
Monday August 28th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is back live and ready to fill you in
on all the Driveway Happenings! (should there be any)
There will be some pictures posted on the family page
about "how we spent our summer vacation" that you
can look at or ignore with gusto.
In the meantime it's M-O-N-D-A-Y---M-O-R-N-I-N-G
on the driveway and on almost all of the links on
this page so enjoy watching the planet start up a
new work week!
Sunday August 27th, 2006 ~
We're back ~ and we had a great time! [Sorry that driveway
cam had some issues while we were gone but hope you
all had a great week in spite of no current driveway
news.]
~ Sunday August 20th - Sunday August 27th, 2006 ~
In an unprecedented turn of events Driveway Cam, *and* it's
pet PC, will be left unattended (!) for the next week. They
will however both remain ever vigilant watching the driveway
so that you can too. The first picture of the morning will stay
the same but the current picture of the day will continue
to update; right through all of Jim's celebrations at
having the house to himself for a week and beyond. We, who
are on vacation (and without internet access), hope you will
continue to enjoy checking in on the driveway as well as the
other cam views here. Keep an eye on things for us while we're
gone. Have a great week! And if you meet any visiting
space aliens - be nice.... and remember that
29 years ago we sent an
open invitation to them!!? (click here or on picture for more)
:)
Saturday August 19th, 2006 ~
Busy viewing day today! Julie's car will be leaving us
(we will miss seeing it out there), there are trips
a'plenty out and back in all day, both cars, no waiting!
And there are rumors of rain. Keep a fan nearby in case
you overheat from all the excitement ~ and be sure to
take a break and check out some of the other cams so
you don't explode from all the action here. Have a
great Saturday ~
Friday August 18th, 2006 ~
Hang on to your hats it's FRIDAY ON THE DRIVEWAY!!!!
(enjoy the views)
Thursday August 17th, 2006 ~
Not too many driveway pictures today but the rest
of the cam views are out there waiting! Enjoy ~
Wednesday August 16th, 2006 ~
Can it possibly be Wednesday already? Well, it appears
to be, at least here on the driveway ~ We hope everyone
returning to school today has a GREAT day! And a very
Good Day especially to Jessie starting out the school
year with a broken collar bone. We all hope it heals
quickly and painlessly for you Jessie! If you are
already back in school have a great day too and while
we're at it Driveway Cam wishes all it's viewers a Marvelous Day. :) And in case you missed them, there were a
bevy of badgers out yesterday afternoon (this was just after
4:00 PM (eastern)
We don't actually know if badgers bevy, but whatever they do, they did.
Tuesday August 15th, 2006 ~
Jim's car returned to the driveway under the cover
of night ~ Julie's car will be leaving this weekend.
If you'd like your car to appear on driveway cam
please let us know. We'll save a spot for you. (Lot's
of driveway, no waiting)
In the meantime, have a lovely Tuesday out there and
as always, enjoy the views ~
Monday August 14th, 2006 ~
There is joy in Mudville today as Monday is at bat!
Sunday August 13th, 2006 ~
Today is the anniversary of the Berlin Wall.The first part of the wall
was built at 2 a.m. on this day in 1961, made of cinder blocks and barbed wire.
It was later replaced with a fifteen-foot concrete wall with watchtowers,
guns, electric wire, and mines. It came to symbolize the Cold War's
division of Eastern Europe from Western Europe. It came down in November
of 1989.
The link for Hawaii's Kilauea volcano is now in the table,
where the egg tote board link used to reside. (Don't panic,
that link has been moved to the page with the links to the birds nests)
A picture from the pyramid page has been put on to the random
shots page but otherwise here on Driveway Cam the beat goes
on.
Saturday August 12th, 2006 ~
Saturday in the park hasn't got a thing over Saturday on the
driveway! (okay, maybe the grass and trees thing, but that's
about it) Enjoy the day and the views ~ especially this
one which is a link found for watching the volcano in Hawaii erupt.
It will go on the table tomorrow; for now just click here:
[View the eruption of Hawaii's Kilauea volcano from the Pu'u O'o vent.
A three image panorama of the entire crater is taken every 45 seconds.
Its the same view the scientist studying the volcano eruption are viewing.]
Friday August 11th, 2006 ~
We made it to the brink of the weekend! And what a brink
it is. This is the
last weekend before school starts for many of driveway
cam's viewers; it's the weekend of the
Perseid meteor shower which peaks tonight (full moon
viewing hints click here) , it's Marty's birthday **AND** it's ...- - -...
Day!!
(The international distress call, SOS, which replaced
CQD (All stations -- distress!), was first used by an
American ship on this day in 1909. The ocean liner
Arapahoe found itself in trouble off Cape Hatteras, NC.
The ship’s wireless operator, T. D. Haubner, radioed
for help when his ship lost its screw propeller near
the ‘Graveyard of the Atlantic’, Diamond Shoals. The
call was heard by the United Wireless station at Hatteras.)
(mouse over the link to hear signal)
Thursday August 10th, 2006 ~
A more than usual for a Thursday but still less than
usual for the rest of the week updates day today ~ not going to
the condo until the afternoon....but updates until then!
Tuesday August 8th, 2006 ~
And just that fast, it's Tuesday on the driveway.....
Monday August 7th, 2006 ~
Good Monday Morning from the Driveway. You may have
noticed some odd vistas yesterday as driveway cam
became first desk mess cam and then office plant cam. (the home
office of Driveway Cam was under some renovation and
Driveway Cam bounced around a bit) But it's back in place today
with it's eye on the driveway for you ~ enjoy the view!
Sunday August 6th, 2006 ~
A quiet Sunday on the driveway, brought to you
by Driveway Cam:
Saturday August 5th, 2006 ~
Hope this first half of the weekend is a good one
for you. Today is the birthday of Wendell Berry ~ who was
born in Port Royal, Kentucky in 1934. And who is on the
Special Birthday Link for today Enjoy the views :)
Friday August 4th, 2006 ~
Good Morning Driveway Cam!!!!!
And welcome to another Friday rolling on down the driveway.
Thursday August 3rd, 2006 ~
Another few updates Thursday for the Driveway, but
all the other links are updating all day for you ~
Wednesday August 2nd, 2006 ~
A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AUNT BOOTIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope it's a wonderful day out there in her honor.
Tuesday August 1st, 2006 ~
Welcome to the Dog Days of August.
Even up here the outlook is HOT:
Forecast - 98 Degrees
Record - 96 Degrees happened in 1933
Heat Index - 100-110 Degrees
Could possibly hit 100 Degrees here today they say. Last time we had a 100 degree temperature
'round these parts was 1953! And it's even hotter for most of our viewers....so slow down and
Stay Cool, Stay inside, watch the heat around the country from the
comfort of Driveway Cam or better yet watch some snow and ice on the Arctic links.
(On the Unofficial Elk Cam you can watch them battle a wild fire that
is burning there if the Antarctic and Pole views cool you down too much).
Monday July 31st, 2006 ~
Teetering on the brink of a new month but July isn't
leaving just yet. It will be here, on the driveway,
all day ~ enjoy the view! For non-weekend
viewers (and you know who you are) you can find out
about the guest appearance in the driveway if you slide
on down to previously.
Sunday July 30th, 2006 ~
Slight technical glitch yesterday as all of the daily
pictures went to the 'first picture of the day' slot.
Have that sorted out just in time for the arrival of
a visitor to the driveway today ~ appearing in the
role of driveway guest for the next 2 weeks is Julie's
car! And you thought it was going to be just another
Sunday......
Saturday July 29th, 2006 ~
All driveway, all the time!
:)
Friday July 28th, 2006 ~
The last Friday of July is rolling on down the driveway
today ~ the summer seems intent on screaming by. If
the headrush action of the driveway makes it seem to go
even faster (!?) take a break and watch some
moss grow ,
or see if you can catch the change in
Niagara Falls as
it moves backwards..... once almost 2 1/2 feet a year as the water
wears away at it. (Warning! at about 0.082 inches a day
that may just be a little too much for the faint of heart
so please view responsibly) :)
Special Birthday Link for today
Thursday July 27th, 2006 ~
Gotta run I'm late for condo-daze, so it's an even
fewer update Thursday ~ enjoy the links!
Wednesday July 26th, 2006 ~
It's dromedary day here on the driveway, and probably
where you are too. Hope it's a good one for you. Rain
is dampening the chances of more yard work today, but
whatever happens under the watchful eye of driveway
cam you'll see it first! (well, technically, second since
driveway cam actually sees it first........)
Tuesday July 25th, 2006 ~
Hang on to your hats, there are trips a plenty up and
down the drive, yard work going to be done, water going
to be delivered.... Add to that it was on this day in 1814
that a man named George Stephenson made the first successful
demonstration of the steam locomotive in Northern England.
(His engine pulled eight loaded wagons of thirty tons' weight
about four miles an hour up a hill.) ~
Why, it's almost more than one driveway can handle.
Monday July 24th, 2006 ~
Good Morning Driveway Cam!!! And welcome to your
ring side seat to watch another Monday roll on down
the driveway. Today is Amelia Erhart's
birthday. Hope everyone has an adventure (or two) today in her
honor. (Thanks to Writer's Almanac for the link)
Sunday July 23rd, 2006 ~
It's a sunny Sunday on the Driveway, and it's here all
day for you. And so Driveway Cam viewers can be kept
on top (and bottom) of everything check out the new
links in the table.....live views from the North
and South poles! (tho' the South Pole cam is iffy) Also,
back by request, the population counter from 7/20 ~ if that
number is too big for you try just the
US population counter. Enjoy!
Saturday July 22nd, 2006 ~
A rainy start here this morning. Driveway Cam hopes it
turns into a great weekend for everyone. And Happy
Flamingo Party Day to all you Flamingo people
out there. Please tip one back (a drink, not a flamingo)
for Tom Robbins, who turns 70 today, while you are
out visiting the links.
click on both flamingo links underlined here today....for a live look at
a flamingo party and some interesting flamingo factoids!
Friday July 21st, 2006 ~
A fabulous Friday to Driveway Cam viewers everywhere ~ today
is the birthday of cartoonist Garry Trudeau, born in New York City,
New York (1948), who is the creator of the Doonesbury comic strip;
and Ernest Hemingway, born in Oak Park, Illinois (1899)(who never
quite made it as big in the Sunday comics as he may have wanted!?) for
some literary dicotomy today(thanks to Writers Almanac). If it's too
hot today to go out and play ~ well just put your feet up and enjoy
the views.
Thursday July 20th, 2006 ~
Hey you guys......
yesterday was my 1st birthday!!!!
A most Happy Birthday-and-a-day to Miss Lexi whose arrival was heralded here on driveway
cam one year ago today. (slide to the bottom of Previously on Previously, then read up 3 days and you'll
find her there). We hope Lexi's birthdayandaday, and the anniversary of either the first Moon Landing
or the first faked movie of a moon landing (!) is a great one for EVERYONE out there ~
ps - no condo today, so updates all day - yee ha!
Wednesday July 19th, 2006 ~
Remembered to start up Driveway Cam but forgot to update
the date here. It's Wednesday most everywhere you look ~ even
on the driveway........
Tuesday July 18th, 2006 ~
A small break in the heat (only upper 80's due today!) which means
cooler viewing. And some new links have been added to fit right in with
that cooler viewing. Speaking of cool....just in case you've lost
count, the Yankees are
only 1/2 game behind the what'cha'ma'calls'its who are currently (and temporarily, driveway cam hopes)
in first place! :)
Monday July 17th, 2006 ~
The heat wave continues. If you get too overheated
watching the driveway take a break and watch the Antarctic
for a while to cool down............
Sunday, July 16th, 2006 ~
Find some shade, a long extension cord for your PC,
and take it easy today relaxing just watching the
driveway..............
Saturday, July 15th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is back and has it's eye the driveway
so you can too.
Have a great Saturday and enjoy the views ~
Friday, July 14th, 2006 ~
Happy Bastille Day!!! Don't lose your heads
today in your celebrations. : )
Last day to Hunt for Hannah, check the link in
the table below. Here is a picture of where they'll
be singing their last concert today. They head home tomorrow.
Heat wave coming through here today - driveway
cam will be back live this afternoon so you can watch (!). In the mean time
make a pitcher of lemonade, head for a shady spot under
a tree and enjoy the views...if you get too warm you
can always checkout the snow still on some of the mountain
views. Enjoy ~
Thursday, July 13th, 2006 ~
No driveway updates until late (late) this afternoon,
however....it's also the penultimate day to play Hunt for Hannah!
They are going to be getting to Rothenburg around 5:00 their time
(around 11:00AM our time) - so check out the link to the
Rothenburg Germany Cams
.
Happy Hunting!
P.S....a couple of deck cam views this morning before
going to the condo
Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 ~
Okay, the new PC and Driveway Cam are at least talking
to each other now. However this week has 2 condo days
in it so there won't be many updates today or tomorrow.
Which gives you lots of time to Hunt for Hannah...their group (KY Ambassadors of Music) is in
Venice today!
There are lots of web cams in Venice, with no known stops
for the group (they are touring in smaller groups), they did
mention trying the market near the Rialto Bridge. The bridge
is HERE
And here are several more links to try out to see if you can
find her:
Link ONE
Link TWO
Link THREE
Link FOUR
Link FIVE
Link SIX
Link SEVEN.
If you do find her or any of her group let us all know ~ and please
save the picture!
Have a great day and let the hunt begin. (Remember they are 6 hours ahead of us; they
are due to arrive around 5AM our time (eastern) and leave around 11AM. It's an
early morning hunt) :)
Monday, July 10th, 2006 ~
The PC is back, but it isn't playing well with
Driveway Cam. There will be live updates as soon
as they can be worked out. For now - a view of
the elevator buttons in the Seattle Hotel. Notice
the one on the right. It says EARTHQUAKE! Asked
repeatedly about what it is for, (Does it start an
earthquake? Does it stop an earthquake?) however no
one knew. (not even the Hotel staff)(or they weren't
telling). Never pushed
it despite the overwhelming desire to do just that.
Have a great week, and stay tuned for the return of
Driveway Cam ~
Wednesday, July 5th, 2006 ~
Posted some pictures here and on the "last 15" page ~
our conference starts Wednesday afternoon so the
touristy stuff is about to come to an end (mostly).
Hope your 4th was exciting and that your 5th is too
for that matter!
Tuesday, July 4th, 2006 ~
~ Happy 4th of July!!! ~
Sunday, July 2nd, 2006 ~
Some renovations going on at Driveway Cam....
please bear with us as we install new hardware
and trapse across country next week. Will attempt
to post pictures from Seattle every now and again.
Meanwhile enjoy the views, the links, and looking
for Hannah in Europe ~ links and info will be out
soon. (sort of like where's waldo in a web cams
across a continent kinda way)
:)
8:21 PM New links are in, at the bottom of the table of
links. We'll be back online next Sunday.
7/3/6 In Seattle - the view from the 18th floor......
Saturday, July 1st, 2006 ~
Bunny Bunny Bunny (required first words every 1st of
the month)(old custom, don't ask)
Happy July to Driveway Cam viewers everywhere. It's
going to be a pretty busy day here on the driveway; the
cars may move 6 or 7 times! And don't forget there is
moss to watch grow, light bulbs to watch shine, and
bubbles to blow electronically. It may not all fit in
just one day! Have a good one.
:)
Friday, June 30th, 2006 ~
A happy Bon Voyage to Hannah who left today on her
Euorpean Tour! For the rest of us ~ it's the start
of a Holiday Weekend as we watch June slowly fade
into July here on the driveway. (bonus day - besides
watching the month ebb it's also grass cutting day!)
A little nest news ~ the single surviving stork chick
in nest #1 (called Felix) is the first chick of all
3 nests to fly. Now able to travel he has been going over
to visit the 4 chicks in nest #2!!!! ~ it's pretty funny to
see that nest crammed full with 5 almost grown chicks and
a parent or two! Everyone there seems fine with him stopping
by in what is a very odd turn of events. If you can take
a break in driveway action it's worth checking out. Enjoy~
Thursday, June 29th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is going to be getting most of the
day off again but there will be some pictures this
morning - and with the Grand Canyon cam back online
you may not even have time to notice it's a few
updates Thursday. Enjoy ~
Wednesday, June 28th, 2006 ~
The driveway beat goes on...happy viewing!
Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 ~
A busy day here on the driveway is in store for viewers
today....why there must be at least 3 trips out and back
planned. You'll want to pace yourselves. :)
Monday, June 26th, 2006 ~
From the Writers Almanac comes this bit of history
for today:
On this day in 1974, bar codes were first used in
supermarket checkout lanes. In a Marsh's supermarket
in Troy, Ohio, the first product to be scanned was a
10-pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit chewing gum. It just
happened to be the first thing lifted from the cart.
Today, the pack of gum is on display at the Smithsonian
National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
And this bit for Driveway Cam history in the future (?):
The MA's fought all the way to late Sunday where they
were beaten by a team of professionals from Bulgaria.
Our congratulations to them for a well played
tournament. Hannah leaves today for a few days of
rehersal camp and then its off for their concert tour
of Europe! Driveway cam wishes it could go with them,
but will stay here, on duty, bringing you all the
driveway news and views you can possibly use. A very
good Monday to everyone ~
Sunday, June 25th, 2006 ~
Most of the falcons may have flown their nests but the storks
are still around learning to fly, and still fun to
watch. (Buffalo's chicks are also still around, as are the eagle
chicks in Findland if you are wanting to catch some other end of the
season viewing). In Lexington Cheryl's team is still in the
hunt and could be one step closer to a national
title after today! And here on the driveway it's
going to be a ....well, you'll just have to watch to
find out what kind of day it's going to be. Enjoy ~
Saturday, June 24th, 2006 ~
The KY State tournament gets underway today for
Cheryl and her MA tennis team. Fingers Crossed and
Champagne cooling for them! And here on the driveway
it's Saturday!!!!! (bet it is where you are too)(let's
not get into the whole international date line discussion)
Happy Viewing ~
Friday, June 23rd, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam wishes Cheryl and her tennis team
buddies best of luck in the KY State Tournament
in Lexington this weekend ~ GO M.A.'s!!!!!!!!!!
And wishes all of it's viewers have a great weekend.
Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 ~
Enjoying your summer so far? Thursdays are
still condo/hence few update days. But that doesn't
mean you can't wander the links and enjoy the views.
Viewer news: B-man is looking for anyone who has
an extra Mater tow truck (from the movie CARS) that
McDonalds is putting in their happy meals. If you
get one he'd LOVE to have one. It looks something
like this:
Wednesday, June 21st, 2006 ~
Summer arrived at 8:23* this morning.....which quite
by (happy) accident was caught on the first picture
of the morning! It's going to be a great day ~
Enjoy the solstice, stay up as late and use
up every minute of this longest day you can. :)
* Truth in lending laws require us to note the
following caveat:
Note that the time listed here was calculated using SummerSolstice in
the Mathematica application package Scientific Astronomer, which
is accurate to within only an hour or so, and in practice gives
times that differ by up to 15 minutes from those computed by the
U.S. Naval Observatory... (but we're going with it here)
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 ~
Welcome to the penultimate day of spring. And to the
second longest day of the year as it unfolds on the driveway......
Monday, June 19th, 2006 ~
Driveway cam wishes Karen a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!!!
And as another week starts rolling on down the driveway
we are enjoying the rain and slightly cooler temperature.
Save some room in your Monday for checking out the nests,
and the tiger cubs (and of course whatever your other
favorite links may be).
Sunday, June 18th, 2006 ~
Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there. It's
a very hot day here on the driveway, hope everyone
finds some shade today ~
Saturday, June 17th, 2006 ~
The weekend is here ~ yeeee ha!!! And there is a new link to
try out sent in by a viewer now researching
for the summer in DC. Thanks Catherine! The link
is to the new litter of Sumatran tigers
at the National Zoo. They won't be on public exhibit for
several months but you can see them here on driveway cam ~
Friday, June 16th, 2006 ~
Happy Birthday to Uncle Ed down in Georgia! Hope
it's a great day for you!!! And Driveway Cam hopes
everyone has a great day watching this Friday roll
on down the driveway. Enjoy!
Thursday, June 15th, 2006 ~
Enjoy visiting the nests and other links today
while the pc leaves Driveway Cam on yet another
few-updates-Thursday..........Stay Cool! (which
of course is very easy for all of you because
you are Driveway Cam viewers!) :)
Wednesday, June 14th, 2006 ~
Happy Flag Day America! And a very red-white-and-blue
day to driveway cam viewers everywhere. The stork in
nest #1 (Felix as he is called) is very close to his
first flight - lots of wing exercises to watch there
and in the other nests. Take some time out of your
flag day celebrations to sit a spell and check out
the driveway links.....(there are a few news ones
you may not have visted yet)
Tuesday, June 13th, 2006 ~
Weather is supposed to be clear and sunny and
warm today......all the doppler 12Thousands said
so ~ and you'll see it happen right here on Driveway
Cam!
Monday, June 12th, 2006 ~
Happy Monday to Driveway Cam viewers everywhere....
And if any viewers know how to "encourage" birds
to nest elsewhere please let us know. The BIRDS are
back and now building their nest on the pie tin we
used to "discourage" them previously. You'll see
them sitting on the corner of the garage waiting to
make a run at either the nest or one of us ~
Sunday, June 11th, 2006 ~
An overcast and cool day....perfect for the driveway
cam ports of call ~ in other words a perfect day for
nest hopping, bubble blowing, mountain watching, moss
growing, and napping (one of driveway cams unbroadcast
but favorite sites).
Saturday, June 10th, 2006 ~
Welcome to Saturday as seen by the driveway ~ enjoy the
view(s)!
Friday, June 9th, 2006 ~
6:11 PM - Good Grief!! Forgot to mention
it's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you had a
good day of viewing anyway. At least the camera
Thursday, June 8th, 2006 ~
Hi ho hi ho it's to the condo we go.....not too many
driveway pictures today but plenty of action out there
Another week begins here on the driveway. It's
quiet (and sunny!) out there today. While enjoying
the beauty and the splendor (?) that is the driveway
don't forget to check in on the nests......and everyone
waiting in line at the Jefferson County Clerks offices!
:)
Sunday, June 4th, 2006 ~
Another rainy cool day seems to be in store for the
driveway, hope it's warm and dry out where you are.
Whatever the weather, enjoy taking some time out to
stop and watch the action on Driveway Cam!
Saturday, June 3rd, 2006 ~
Happy Moving Day to all the movers down in KY.
Hope the rainy day here means it's a dry sunny day for
you there. We wish you had a driveway cam running there
today!!
A sad day at Storks Nest #1 yesterday, 2 of the 3 chicks
died suddenly for reasons unknown at the moment. The
remaining chick seems healthy today, eating and moving
about. Fingers crossed he doesn't catch what his siblings
had. The other nests (all very close in distance to nest
#1) happily seem to be doing well.
Friday, June 2nd, 2006 ~
Last day of school in KY, moving day has arrived for Amy
and the kids, falcons are walking ledges all over
the place and it's a Friday! A wish for cool weather for
the move and for a great weekend for everyone.
Thursday, June 1st, 2006 ~
Hey! It's June! And chicks are bursting out all
over....the storks in nest #1 got banded yesterday.
There are pictures of it in the gallery on the site.
They are such funny looking birds. Have a great day!
Wednesday, May 31st, 2006 ~
The last day of May is feeling a whole lot like the
last day of July here on Driveway Cam ~ hope you are
staying cool where ever you are!
Monday, May 29th, 2006 ~
~ A *VERY* HAPPY BIRTHDAY to B-Man!!!! ~
And a Happy Memorial Day to everyone....
Sunday, May 28th, 2006 ~
Looks beautiful out on the driveway ~ and the temperature
is rising. May be time to make a pitcher of lemonade
and to drag your monitor out to the veranda.....
Saturday, May 27th, 2006 ~
Friday came and went so fast that it's already Saturday!?
Hope this first weekend of the Summer is a good one for
everyone ~ Enjoy!
Thursday, May 25th, 2006 ~
Happy (few updates) Thursday! It's gotten quite
warm here ~ heading towards 80 today 'round these
parts. Have a lovely day of viewing out on the links......
Driveway cam was busy yesterday blowing up balloons
for today to wish....
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JIM-BO-BILLY-BOB!!!!!!!!!
Monday, May 22nd, 2006 ~
Good Monday Morning! Cheryl and the rest of her MA's won
a slot in the next round of the tennis tournament!! Mid
June they head off to Lexington and if successful there on
to Hawaii! Go MA's!!!!! Working on getting the new links
in place - hope to have them available soon. Good news in
the Finland eagle's nest ~ the parents returned and the
chicks were successfully put back in the nest. Hope you
have a great start to the new week and schedule in plenty
of driveway watching.
Sunday, May 21st, 2006 ~
A rainy Sunday for your viewing pleasure. And many
Good Luck wishes out to Cheryl and the rest of the MA
tennis team in their tournament this weekend!
Saturday, May 20th, 2006 ~
The weekend is here ~ last chance to visit the Lilac Festival,
first chance to break the DaVinci Code, and a great time to
sit back, watch some hatchings (still a few chicks to come in
Buffalo), visit some mountains, and see if the moss has grown.
There will be some driveway cam link maintenance over the weekend,
so stay tuned for some exciting new viewing opportunities!
Friday, May 19th, 2006 ~
There are chicks in Buffalo ~ the last ones to hatch in
our list of nests! Have a great Friday, don't work too hard
(don't want to be over tired for the weekend...), and be sure
to take time out to stop and watch the driveway, complete with
lawn mowing today. The thrills never stop ~
Thursday, May 18th, 2006 ~
Happy Thursday! Slight change from the normal FewUpdatesThursday
routine. Driveway cam will be here all day bringing you all
the driveway action you can stand in 15 minute intervals. :)
Wednesday, May 17th, 2006 Late Afternoon ~
The good news is it's not Monday anymore here on Driveway
Cam ~ the PC has returned from it's meetings so the camera
is back keeping America current on Driveway events! Have
a lovely evening.
Monday, May 15th, 2006 ~
Another work week begins, but don't let that get in the
way of your driveway viewing, mountain watching, nest checking
and visiting a new link here and in the table below.....
Polar Bear Cam !! Enjoy ~
Sunday, May 14th, 2006 ~
A very happy Mother's Day to all of our driveway cam viewers.
starts today here in Rochester, there
are hatchings still going on and there is snow melting on
some of the mountains ~ a busy day of viewing ahead.....
Thursday, May 11th, 2006 ~
It's Thursday and the PC is running late ~ Enjoy the views!
Wednesday, May 10th, 2006 ~
Our amazing weather is rumored to be ending tomorrow, but
for today it's still all sunshine on the driveway (which
the dandelions are loving!) And speaking of dandelions -
this much maligned plant here in the burbs actually has a
proud heritage. Here are some links for
everything dandelion: pictures, poetry and more,
recipes, a little
history, some general information,
other
medicial uses, and
some insight from a wildman?
Enjoy!
Tuesday, May 9th, 2006 ~
It's Tuesday here on the Driveway ~ enjoy the view!
Monday, May 8th, 2006 ~
There were a lot of hatchings in the past few days ~ if you
haven't been out to the nests you should visit. The eggtote
page is updated as of yesterday, and will be updated again
after a few checks today. The chicks all get so big so fast
they almost grow while you're looking at them!
Sunday, May 7th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam hopes your run for the roses was a good one. It's
another beautiful day here on the driveway so there may just have
to be a few more juleps on the deck this afternoon......PS ~ Em
would like to thank all you Bluegrass Cats out there as it was in
your honor that she won $15.40!
Saturday, May 6th, 2006 ~
And we're off!!!! Driveway cam hopes your Kentucky Derby
Weekend is a winning one. (Driveway Cam is leaning towards
Jazil and Sweetnorthernsaint but is unable to play it's hunch
and place a
$2 bet on them by the laws prohibiting inanimate objects from
wagering........) Get all the racing news and visit the track
almost live via Paddock Cam
which is on the Churchill Downs Page. Enjoy!!
And if the link above doesn't work for you, you can type in the address
directly: www.churchilldowns.com
And here are a link to another live cam in Churchill Downs
with a different view
and another link to the paddock cam without having to bring up the whole page.....
Friday, May 5th, 2006 ~
Friday, the Oaks, hatchings, lawn mowing, driveway action and Cinqo de Mayo ~ how will it all fit
in 1 day? Driveway cam has a bird's eye view for you!
Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006 ~
As we round the corner on this week and race towards
the weekend, driveway cam wants to remind you to stop
and smell the roses, or in this case stop and view the driveway
(and the mountains, and the nests, and the badgers,
and the tulips..............)
Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006 ~
Thanks to an eagle eyed viewer who pointed out that driveway
cam was stuck in the past......finally....it's TUESDAY here
on the driveway. Found 6 (!) eggs in the Rochester Falcon
nest this morning ~ will do an afternoon check of the rest of
the nests shortly. Happy Viewing on this abbreviated Tuesday.
Monday, May 1st 2006 ~
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HANNAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a WONDERFUL day!
Sunday April 30th, 2006 ~
It couldn't be a lovelier day here on the driveway ~
Saturday April 29th, 2006 ~
Presenting: A beautiful day on the driveway, in 15 minutes slices ~
Friday April 28th, 2006 ~
It was a busy week for the nests, lots of viewing, lots of chicks
to keep watch, and the hatchings continue. Have a great weekend.
The driveway here should be bathed in sunshine all weekend - hope yours is too! Enjoy ~
Thursday April 27th, 2006 ~
If driveway cam had a face it would be red. Turns out that the
Cleveland Nest #2 is really in Ft. Wayne Indiana. Oops. Imagine
my surprise. (always wondered why it said Michigan/Indiana on it
if it was in Ohio)(don't say it). But the chicks are every bit as
cute as Hoosiers as they were as Buckeyes!
Okay, moving on, it's a not-many-driveway-updates Thursday so check
the nests and please let us know if any more chicks decide to hatch. Have
a great day ~
Wednesday April 26th, 2006 ~
Driveway cam is trying to keep you up to date on the hatchings
but it's a busy week out there in the nests so the eggtote page
and pictures may lag a little bit. Luckily it's a
slow day (!?) on the driveway so you have plenty of time to
wander out to the links (the bird links that is, not the
golf links) Enjoy and Happy Wednesday ~
Tuesday April 25th, 2006 ~
Busy day at nest #1 in Germany yesterday. The hatchings
should continue this week and you'll have a driveway side
view. Meanwhile the tree here is so close to blooming you may
be able to hear the 'pop' when it does ~ Added a new
link to the collection. Check the table below as you wouldn't
want to miss out watching Dust Cam. Enjoy!
12:15 - Just did a nest visit and it seems that the
Dayton nest now has 3 chicks!!! They started hatching over the weekend.
The Columbus nest, in anticipation of their hatchings, has removed the
inset ledge camera view and just has the nest camera on now. Very exciting
times out there. (Eggtote page has been updated with a picture of the
Dayton chicks.)
Monday April 24th, 2006 ~
The first of the Stork Eggs has hatched! Picture of the chick
on the egg tote page . This week could be
quite a week for hatching - falcon hatchings are due any day
at several of the nests. Enjoy the view!!
Sunday April 23th, 2006 ~
Many eagle-eyed viewers saw the first lawn mow of the season
on Friday. (if you
missed it check out the driveway on the random shots page)
The excitement seemes to have been too much for Driveway Cam
which took the day off yesterday.
But it's back today, bringing you the driveway and environs
in 15 minute increments.
If you didn't get out for Earth Day yesterday then be sure to
view some nests, some moss, some tulips, some trees today. Live
and of course here on Driveway Cam too!!
Friday April 21th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam seems to have hosed the names of the days
of the week recently...but is fairly certain today is Friday
(and not a moment too soon)
All 4 eggs have hatched in the Cleveland nest #1 - pictures on the
eggtote page - maybe the other Cleveland nest will be the next
one with chicks? If you spot new hatchings please let Driveway
Cam know.
Have a great weekend!
Wednesday April 20th, 2006 ~
Third chick hatched in Cleveland....pictures soon!
Tuesday April 19th, 2006 ~
The first falcon chick has arrived! One of the eggs
in the Cleveland (1) nest hatched yesterday. If you haven't
gotten into nest peeping this is a good time to start watching ~
Enjoy!
Update!!! Seems there are 2 chicks in the Cleveland nest and
another on the way!!! (check egg tote board and random shots for
Tuesday April 18th, 2006 ~
Slightly less driveway in view today, and slightly more tree.
The tree is about to bloom ~
Monday April 17th, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam hopes everyone found all of their eggs yesterday ~
but don't worry if you didn't ~ they will revel themselves in
a few weeks! Welcome to Monday. Enjoy the view!
Sunday April 16th, 2006 ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Easter!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday April 15th, 2006 ~
Forget your taxes ~ it's egg season! And while you
are dying your Easter eggs take a few minutes to visit
the nests to see how all those eggs are coming along.
It's a beautiful day (looks like) out on the driveway.
Enjoy!
Friday April 14th, 2006 ~
Good Friday already!? Amazing. Spring seems to have stepped into
high gear up here. Things have greened up around the driveway very
quickly with the application of some warm weather, some April showers and
the growing days with some sunshine too. The tulips are starting
up, the lilac bushes are budding, and generally there is a green
haze to many of the trees and bushes. The air quality cam links show an
interesting mix of snow and spring, and the nests are all hopping.
There were even 3 badgers on badger cam yesterday! Don't forget to take
some time while getting ready for Easter to enjoy the views ~
Thursday April 13th, 2006 ~
Another 'few updates' Thursday has rolled into view ~
which gives everyone lots of time to watch the nests
instead of the driveway. Buffalo has 2 eggs now! The egg
tote will be updated as soon as possible. They are saying
they expect a third one today.....oh boy oh howdy!!! Any
other changes in totals please let us know. Happy Thursday
the 13th!
Wednesday April 12th, 2006 ~
A Very Happy Birthday To Ms Amanda Pebble ~ you're not
getting older dear, you are just getting crankier! Wear
it proudly. :)
And while we are all racing towards Easter don't forget
to take time out to stop and watch the driveway.
Tuesday April 11th, 2006 ~
Today is the Happy Birthday of an old (old) friend
Murphy.....hope it's a good one!
Pretty day on the driveway today - and hopefully out in
all the nests. Happy Viewing ~
Monday April 10th, 2006 ~
Happy Monday!?!! From your friends at Driveway Cam.
:)
Sunday April 9th, 2006 ~
Artistry in Threads festival continues today at the Science Museum
Eisenhart Auditorium 11-4....and it looks like it could be another sunny
day here on the driveway. The #3 storks nest picture is posted
on the egg tote board and Buffalo has entered the egg race at long last. If
you find any new egg counts at any of the nests please let us know. Enjoy ~
Saturday April 8, 2006 ~
Artistry in Threads festival today at the Science Museum
Eisenhart Auditorium 10-4....if you are in the neighborhood
stop by and visit the Knitting Guild Booth.
Eggs arrive in the #3 Stork nest!!!! Will post pictures
soon. Happy Viewing ~
Friday April 7, 2006 ~
The PC is traveling today so just a picture or two
this morning before Driveway Cam gets a bit of a rest.
Have a great Friday and enjoy the views!
Thursday April 6, 2006 ~
A quiet day on the driveway today ~ gives you plenty
of time to check out the nests, the mountains, the
moss, the donkeys, the tulips............and as someone
asked ~ a good time to catch the badgers is around 3:30-4:00
(EDT)
Wednesday April 5, 2006 ~
This afternoon at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00,
the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06. (as it was at
1:00 this morning but driveway cam missed that one).
Hope it's a lovely 01:02:03 04/05/06 for you! And as always,
enjoy the view.......
Tuesday April 4, 2006 ~
Another Tuesday on the Driveway ~ Vietnam Vets are coming
by to pick up some displaced items, a trip or two out and
about and intermittent sun showers. Who could ask for
anything more? Congratulations to Florida and to B-Man,
your winnings are in the mail! Happy Viewing.
Monday April 3, 2006 ~
Looking forward to THE game tonight, and the start
of a new week. As well as a lovely day of viewing tulip cam,
the various nests and, of course, the driveway......
Sunday, April 2, 2006 ~
Driveway cam hopes everyone was just a little foolish
yesterday. Watching the driveway and checking nests is
a great way to recover from whatever pranks may have
befallen you ~
Saturday, April 1, 2006 ~
Happy April from the fools at Driveway Cam!
Friday, March 31, 2006 ~
March is leaving us very lamb-like. Hope your weather
is as great where ever you are. Driveway viewing all
day works as an alternative if the view out your windows
isn't so sunny. There are eggs and chicks all over
the place which makes nest cam hopping all the more
exciting when you need a break from the driveway rush.
Have a great Friday!
Thursday, March 30, 2006 ~
Driveway Cam is back online bringing you up to the (15)
minute driveway news! After doing a nest check, the egg
tote/hatch counts will be updated. Spring appears to be
ge-spronging out there ~ happy viewing!
Thursday, March 23, 2006 ~
A few views of the driveway this morning and then no live
picture updates for a while. We'll try to post some not-so-live
pictures over the next week ~ but don't forget the nests are
live all the time and things are hopping out there! Enjoy!
Wednesday, March 22, 2006 ~
Snow, and stork eggs, and new owls, plus the moss, tulips
and mountains.....looks like it's going to be another
day of heart pounding thrills here on Driveway Cam. (You may
want to adjust your caffeine intake today ~)
Tuesday, March 21, 2006 ~
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LYDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a WONDERFUL day!
Monday, March 20th 2006
1:26 PM (E.S.T.) ~ provided there are no travel delays ~ Spring Arrives!
Could explain why here in the land that winter forgot the tulips are starting up
and some of the crocus' are in bloom. Driveway Cam is proud to present the
Vernal Equinox, as seen on the driveway! Enjoy.
Sunday, March 19th 2006
No, it's not a problem with the picture. That is actual snow on the ground.
Hope your brackets are holding up. Should be another great day of viewing both
on and off the driveway. It's a great day for nest viewing too. (check out the
2 most recent random shots of the falcons (one is Rochester, the latest is Columbus)....
they seem to be catching on to the whole camera thing!)
Saturday, March 18th 2006 ~ Driveway cam repeated the Friday note
Friday, March 17th 2006
Happy Saint Patrick's Day - and all the best for the 2nd day of the 1st
round.
And a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the now 50 year old man Cheryl is running around with!!
Salutations Mike - have a great day!!!
Thursday, March 16th 2006 (got misplaced. sorry)
Wednesday, March 15th 2006
Today is the Ides of March. From our friends at Writers Almanac...
"In the Roman Calendar, each month had three division days: kalends, nones and ides.
For months that had thirty-one days, the ides occurred on the fifteenth of the month."
Driveway Cam wishes everyone an Ides with no wary! And if you haven't gotten
your brackets ready for the madness about to begin, take a break from driveway viewing
and get them filled out! What are you waiting for?
Tuesday, March 14th 2006
Lots of wind today blowing in all sorts of things to our neck of the
woods. Including the President. The Rochester falcon cam came back online
yesterday! Found an eagle's nest in West Virginia
with 3 eggs due to hatch starting tomorrow. Udpated both the egg tote and the random
pictures page. Enjoy the views and have a great Ides of March Eve.
Monday, March 13th 2006
The storms and wind from the midwest are arriving today. The thunder
is already rolling about....hmmm....driveway cam needs to get an audio link...
Meanwhile THE bracket came out yesterday ~ the madness is on it's way!
Sunday, March 12th 2006
It's a rainy day here on the driveway, well very damp anyway. A good
day to wander the links. And while you're out there wandering check out the
new pictures on Lexi's link - they will make your day! Enjoy ~
Saturday, March 11th 2006
Saturday on the Driveway ~ all driveway, all the time :)
Friday, March 10th 2006
Time flies when you are watching the driveway ~ here it is the 10th
of March already. Tulip cam grows ever more exciting (so to speak), the falcons
are back and have been seen at almost every nest location so the egg race
will be heating up soon, and here on the driveway the sun is shining and
the snow is all gone. Which, for now, means it's time to watch the grass
get greener - brought to you at no extra charge by Driveway Cam. Enjoy!
Thursday, March 9th 2006
Spring is visiting the driveway this morning - be on the lookout
for bunnies and other woodland creatures frolicking, flowers blooming, butterflies,
and other cartoon images that may have gotten confused and wandered out on to the
driveway. But
look quick, because sadly, it's few-updates-Thursday again. Have a lovely day,
and get out side (after you've checked in on the nests, and the tulips, and
the mountains and.........)
Wednesday, March 8th 2006
GOOD MORNING DRIVEWAY-CAM!!!!!!!!
Tuesday, March 7th 2006
A big day in history for any number of reasons ~ and here are a few
to mull over while watching the driveway(with many thanks to Writers Almanac):
It was on this day in 1876 that Alexander Graham Bell received patent No. 174,465
for the telephone. He filed for his patent on the same day as a Chicago electrician
named Elisha Gray filed for a patent on basically the same device. Bell only beat
Gray by two hours. Bell offered to sell his patent to Western Union for $100,000,
but Western Union turned him down.
~
It was on this day in 1933 that a man named Charles Darrow trademarked the board
game Monopoly. Darrow based the game on an earlier game called "The Landlord's Game,"
which had been designed by a woman named Elizabeth Magie. She'd designed the game
back in 1904 as an educational tool, to teach people about the evils of capitalism.
Darrow's real genius wasn't in inventing the game, but in redesigning it. In the
midst of the Great Depression, he turned the game into a celebration of capitalism,
giving people a chance to imagine that they were rich.
~
On this day in 1923, Robert Frost's poem, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,"
was published in the New Republic magazine. It was Frost's favorite of his own
poems, and he called it, "My best bid for remembrance."
Though it's a poem about winter, Frost wrote the first draft on a warm morning
in the middle of June. The night before he had stayed up working at his kitchen
table on a long, difficult poem called "New Hampshire" (1923). He finally finished
it, and then looked up and saw that it was morning. He'd never worked all night
on a poem before. Feeling relieved at the work he'd finished, he went outside
and watched the sunrise.
While he was outside, he suddenly got an idea for a new poem. So he rushed
inside his house and wrote "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" in just
a few minutes. He said he wrote most of the poem almost without lifting his
pen off the page.
Some technical problems over the weekend hosed up most of the weekend
viewing ~ but things seem to be under control a bit. (Driveway Cam has apparently
decided to change views but other than that so far things are working)
Here's to another week of thrills and chills on the driveway.
Saturday, March 4th 2006
And now, for your viewing pleasure, Saturday on the Driveway ~
Friday March 3rd, 2006
Driveway Cam would like to apologize for yesterday's technical
difficulties in presenting a current driveway view. To make up for any
inconvenience updates will be every 5 minutes today!
9:33 AM Update: I just
found where our missing snow has gone!!!
Thursday March 2nd, 2006
Welcome to the downward slope to the weekend ~ added a few new links
at the bottom of the table. One especially for Christopher! They are all
British sites so remember the time difference. The BBC cams link has been
updated and there are 'ever so many' lovely links out there....when you aren't
watching the driveway you can surf England ~ Enjoy!
Wednesday March 1st, 2006
A new month! Rumor has it the crocus are up in Kentucky, the storks and
falcons are wandering back, the penguins are wandering off so spring must be on
it's way [even while many of us are still hoping winter will show up]. How ever
March does comes in, roaring or not, you'll see it all here on the driveway.
Tuesday February 28th, 2006
Last chance for some February driveway viewing! Get it while it's hot~
(or
cold in this case.....)
Monday February 27th, 2006
Another week begins here on Driveway Cam....and you'll see it all in 15
minute increments! (this just in ~ The egg tie has been broken ~ check out the
tote board for details)
Sunday February 26th, 2006
Perhaps another flurry or two out on the driveway today......a couple
of trips out and back....and most likely a car passing once or twice in each
direction. Hard to top action like that ~ sit back and enjoy the view.
Saturday February 25th, 2006
Driveway Cam hopes everyone out there has a great Saturday and hopes you'll
save some time for viewing! (Don't forget to check out the nests too ~)
Friday February 24th, 2006
Driveway Cam is proud to present Friday and all it's caprices as viewed
from the driveway ~
Thursday February 23rd, 2006
Snow in the forecast - that's always a good thing even if this year it's
almost always a rumor.
Wednesday February 22th, 2006
Hope everyone has a candle-burning-at-both-ends sort of Wednesday. And
by all means while doing so don't forget to read some Gorey. (it's his birthday)(thank you Writer's Almanac)
"It's the birthday of the author and illustrator Edward Gorey,
born in Chicago, Illinois (1925). He's known for writing and illustrating
many morbidly funny books. His first was The Hapless Child (1961), about a little girl
named Sophia who is picked on and abused, sold into slavery, forced to make artificial
flowers, and finally run over by a car."
So take a (small) break from the driveway and if you don't have any Gorey on hand get thee to a library!!!
Peruse The Abandoned Sock, The Glorious Nosebleed, The Haunted Tea-Cosy, The Unstrung Harp, or what
ever your favorite Gorey story may be .... (it's just too hard to pick).....
Tuesday February 21th, 2006
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNT JOYCE!!!!!!!
Monday February 20th, 2006
Yesterday wasn't really Friday here at Driveway Cam....but today *really* is
Monday. The egg race has begun. The owl is winning with 2 eggs seen in the nest.
If you find eggs in any of the others please let Driveway Cam know so the
big tote board can be updated!! (coming soon to a Driveway
Cam link near you) And the storks are
arriving back to the various nests with webcams ~ as seen here in a nest in Spain,
and at nest 2 in Germany:
It's all just too exciting!
Friday February 19th, 2006
Forgot to shut off Driveway Cam last night...so there is no first picture
of the day today, but enjoy the glare of sunshine on the driveway today. It's
quite the bright day out there. Enjoy!
Saturday February 18th, 2006
After yesterday's temperature drop of over 45 degrees and the astounding winds,
today should be much calmer. Stay warm. Stay inside, watch the driveway, check on
the various birds nests, nap a little...it is Saturday after all!
Friday February 17th, 2006
Been listening to the winds scream through here - gusts up to 77 miles
an hour they say ~ and many schools are closed because of wind! (guess they are going
to use those snow days one way or another....and it's just a bonus that this is
an extra day added on to next weeks February break of course). Should be fun viewing
today as just about anything (Dorothy and Toto?) could fly past the driveway. Hang
on to your hats where ever you are ~
Thursday February 16th, 2006
A little rain for your viewing pleasure.....and just a note. Even though the
first 'crop' of penguin chicks is off running around now and the nesting season
is about done down in the Antarctic the good news is it's almost stork/falcon/owl/eagle
nesting season again!! :)
Our favorite storks nest yesterday ~
And there are already residents in the owl and eagle nests!! ~
Wednesday February 15th, 2006
A warm welcome to the newest member of the clan....Aunt Joyce called from
Las Vegas with the news that her first Great Grand Daughter ~ Emma Isabel was born
Monday! 18 inches long, 6lbs 2 ozs, mom Mandy and Emma are both doing well. (As
is, we presume, Grandpa Mike!) Looks like a sunny day out on the driveway today.
Enjoy the view ~
Tuesday February 14th, 2006
Happy Valentines Day ~ from everyone at Driveway Cam.
Monday February 13th, 2006
Driveway Cam salutes all the Triscadecaphobics out there with an all
day viewing, every 13 minutes, of .... the Driveway!
Sunday February 12th, 2006
Everyone in the Driveway Cam viewing area, east of the Mississippi, now
has more snow than the driveway does! Hope you are all enjoying the weather
and staying warm. Send in some pictures ~ Meanwhile it's another nice day
here on the meadow. Snow here is due tomorrow. Watch the roads (and, as always,
the driveway).
Saturday February 11th, 2006
Hope you enjoy the sunshine out there today ~ it's cold, but very
bright! (now, if we would just get some more snow........)
Friday February 10th, 2006
Let it Snow ~ Let it Snow ~ Let it Snow! (and let's hear it for Friday!)
Happy Viewing from Driveway Cam.
Thursday February 9th, 2006
All's quiet on the driveway - good time to check out the penguins!
Wednesday February 8th, 2006
There is still snow on the driveway! Things are looking up. A busy
day today as seen by Driveway Cam. It's trash and recycling day, light snow flurries
due all day (3 inches of flurries = 1 plowed driveway), at least 3 (!) trips out and
back and of course the daily chance to catch the mailman in action. Hard to beat the
possibilities for pure Driveway Cam excitement. Enjoy the view ~
Tuesday February 7th, 2006
No, Driveway Cam isn't malfunctioning....that actually is some snow on the
driveway. Not the 22" that some nearby areas got but snow none the less! Please enjoy
watching the little pieces of Lake Ontario pile up ~ those of us on this side of
Driveway Cam certainly will. And if that isn't enough excitement for you then hold
on to your hats because it's water delivery day!!!! (due to the intense driveway
action possible today viewer discretion is advised) (well, actually Driveway Cam
always encourages discretion in it's viewers........).... :)
Monday February 6th, 2006
40 years ago today the Maasdam left New York for Southampton ~ Meanwhile,
here in a galaxy far far away from that, there are a few snowflakes playing around
out on the driveway. Hopefully they will decide to stay. Happy Monday!!
The view 40 years ago
Sunday February 5th, 2006
There were rumors of snow but all we have been getting (all night) is
rain and howling winds. The winds continue. Snow seems unlikely but you never
know ~ stranger things have happened! Enjoy the view.
Friday February 3rd, 2006
Happy Birthday Emily!!!!! Love always, from Driveway Cam and it's many
associates ~
Thursday February 2nd, 2006
A very Happy GroundHogs Day to everyone on that side of Driveway Cam from
everyone on this side ~
Wednesday February 1st, 2006
Happy GroundHogs Day Eve to all of our Driveway Cam viewers!!
Tuesday January 31st, 2006
Driveway Cam proudly presents the last day of the warmest January in
70-some years ~ as viewed from the driveway. A very Happy Birthday to Ann in Ft. Knox.
And for you eagle eyed viewers.....the white blur in the street on the first picture
of the morning is Rocks dog Mackenzie who apparently got out this morning and is having
a wonderful time running amok!
:)
Monday January 30th, 2006
Driveway Cam hopes you enjoy the last Monday of the month as it plays out
here on the driveway, in the meadow....
Sunday January 29th, 2006
Supposed to get some spring showers today ~ you'll catch all of the
action here on Driveway Cam. And if it's raining it's the perfect day to stay
inside and watch the driveway!
Saturday January 28th, 2006
Driveway Cam is reversing tactics ~ instead of wishing for snow and getting
none .....Have a great weekend and enjoy the view of the sunshine!
Friday January 27th, 2006
Driveway Cam hopes you all have a great day watching the world spin
round as seen from the driveway ~
Wednesday January 25th, 2006
Driveway Cam took a nap yesterday ~ not sure why but everything seems to
be back and working this morning. Just in time for the snow. Don't want to type
that too loud it might scare the snow away! Supposed to get a couple of inches
of Lake Ontario drifting down upon us today...keep your fingers crossed that
it actually happens and enjoy your ring side view.
Even the penguin chicks are excited about our snow this morning! (well, at least one of them is)
Tuesday January 24th, 2006
The beat goes on.
Monday January 23rd, 2006
A very Happy Birthday to Patti Beth and a happy Monday to us all. Enjoy
the beauty and the splendor of a new week on the driveway.
Sunday January 22nd, 2006
Okay, no winter for us this year. Or at least not in January. So sit
back, grab an ice tea, and enjoy watching the sunshine. :)
Saturday January 21st, 2006
Driveway Cam slept in a bit....but is ready now to show you all the driveway
news you need to help build strong bodies 12 ways! There is a front supposed to
pile through here today so there should be some good snow viewing later. Enjoy!
Friday January 20th, 2006
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ~ it's Friday!
Thursday January 19th, 2006
It's a 'very few updates' Thursday again. While the PC is out philandering
please enjoy the driveway views that are there and check out the penguin chicks and
the new paint job on the roof of the buildings there ~
Wednesday January 18th, 2006
Happy Middle-of-the-Week! Looks like spring again.....or at least we are
snow free for a while once more.
Tuesday January 17th, 2006
What a day ahead in the driveway....at least 3 (count 'em) trips up and
down the driveway and it's supposed to rain later in the afternoon. And it's a
happy 300th brithday to Benjamin Franklin today. You couldn't write this kind of
drama if you were paid to! :) Enjoy the day and the viewing!
Monday January 16th, 2006
It Snowed!! Just a little but it's so pretty. Happy Martin Luther King Jr
day to everyone. Put your feet up, relax and enjoy the show.
Sunday January 15th, 2006
At least for a day or two winter is back. It's lovely. Stay warm and
as always enjoy the view!
Saturday January 14th, 2006
Neither wind nor rain nor dark of night..... will keep Driveway Cam from
showing you the up-to-the 30 minute action here on the driveway cam. Well, okay,
so dark of night will but today you get all the rest of it. Wind, rain, sleet,
snow, falling temperatures (they look a lot like snow when they fall). So enjoy
watching as it all goes by. And just for grins to keep up with the changes Driveway
Cam is updating every 10 minutes today. Pace yourselves!
Friday January 13th, 2006
While you are avoiding walking under ladders, breaking mirrors and
finding black cats today remember it's always good luck to keep up on the
heart stopping action that is Driveway Cam. Spring leaves later tonight for a
2 day vacation. A snow/ice storm is due this weekend and then it's back to
balmy. Have a safe Friday the 13th!
Thursday January 12th, 2006
The flowers in bloom remark yesterday was a joke...until I found dandelions
in the yard, in bloom. Spring continues here in upstate New York. Yesterday's
high of 58 is supposed to be repeated today. Driveway Cam gets a bit of a rest as
the PC has to go to it's regularly scheduled Thursday meeting. Which gives you
a break in the driveway action and a chance to go check out how big (and cute) the
penguin chicks are getting!
Wednesday January 11th, 2006
Driveway Cam was ready and watching this morning but someone....I'm not
naming any names....forgot to turn on the upload. Back in action now. Enjoy
the sunshine and 53 degrees ~ instead of snow you may see flowers bloom!
Tuesday January 10th, 2006
It almost looks like spring out there! Winter is wandering about somewhere ~
if you see it tell it we want it to come back. Driveway Cam will keep an eye out
for it's return.
Random Tidbit (thanks to Writers Almanac): On this day in 1863,
the world's first underground passenger train opened in London: the Metropolitan Line.
Before the line opened, The Times of London wrote: "It is an insult to common sense to
suppose that people would ever prefer to be driven amid palpable darkness through the
foul subsoil of London." Nevertheless, the new London Underground was an immediate
success.
Monday January 9th, 2006
The beat goes on - and Driveway Cam shows it all. Happy Monday.
Sunday January 8th, 2006
Our 14 day record breaking streak of cloudy days ended yesterday which
was quite exciting. (Previous record of 13 days was set in 1909)(in case you
were wondering). And today looks like a repeat of yesterday.
Saturday January 7th, 2006
Hope your first Saturday of 2006 is a good one. We're still getting
a little snow here at Driveway Cam. Pull up a chair and enjoy the view!
Friday January 6th, 2006
Evidently it snowed last night while Driveway Cam was off line! There
is a little bit more snow in the forecast for this first weekend of 2006, and
you can count on driveway cam to keep you up-to-date....
Thursday January 5th, 2006
Looks like it may be day 13 of no sun ~ but rumor has it there may be
a few snow flakes later today and tomorrow. We shall see (thanks to driveway
cam!)
Wednesday January 4th, 2006
It may look like April out there but it really is January...not much snow
to watch but there are always the penguin chicks to check out. You might also want
to check out the new family pictures link in the table ~
Tuesday January 3rd, 2006
We're back ~ and so is Driveway Cam. We had a great time and hope you
all did too. Driveway Cam is ready for a new year of showing you all the
action and excitement on the driveway so pull up a chair and enjoy. The
penguin chicks grew a lot while we were gone, if you haven't seen them in a
while you should check them out. [New Year
clean-up here included rearranging and retiring some links in the table, if there
are any you want back let us know]
